The Story Behind Saint Basil Farm & Teas
How the Farm Dream Came to Be
We (Ephraim and Olympia) knew there had to be more to life than computer jobs, modern health and medicine, and the convenience culture we lived in. After researching hydroponics and regenerative agriculture, growing plants here and there, and being convinced that we needed to get back to living like the generations before us, we decided to sell everything and move. We moved across the country from California to North Carolina and bought a 7.5 acre homestead to start a new chapter that was more in line with our values. We’ve chosen to embrace a more intentional lifestyle away from the demands of modern society’s rush. Living in the country allows us to cultivate a life that is deeply purposeful, abundant, and beautiful. In everything we do, we strive to create a peaceful, flourishing, regenerative farm focused on sustainability and biodiversity through organic farming practices.
We currently have a thriving garden, heritage apple orchard, peach orchard, grape vines and a berry garden with blueberries, blackberries, 18 chickens and other wild things. In our pond we have bass and perch/sunfish, birds of all kinds, an owl, wild deer (they’re mainly here for the apples), and some intense tree-climbing groundhogs. Guinea hens, sheep, and a cow are our next goals to work towards. We also finished our cottage recently that will soon be available to rent! How Saint Basil Teas Came to Be
There are many puzzle pieces that have finally brought my loose-leaf tea dream to fruition. Growing up, my mom kept a goldenseal and echinacea tincture in the fridge and was always interested in the best nutritional drinks to help you feel your best. She made us hot tea with lemon and honey when we were sick or even just as a treat. Years later, I followed suit in the health and food industry by working for a local, organic apple farm as my first official high school job. Then I worked at a high afternoon tea room in my hometown where we pampered (primarily) ladies with an extravagant afternoon tea experience. We even gave them warm scented towels to clean their hands with before the tea trays were presented!
When I become very sick at the age of 19, I looked to natural and alternative remedies whenever possible to help me heal. Since I had to undergo all kinds of diet changes, one constant that I could always enjoy was hot tea. Naturally, my love of tea grew as I learned about its immense medicinal benefits as well. I become a team educator in the whole body/supplement department at Whole Foods Market, which expanded my knowledge of homeopathic medicine, herbal remedies, teas, tinctures, and syrups. This led me to became a certified holistic nutritionist in 2020 where I was finally able to recommend specific antidotes for complicated autoimmune issues that my clients were experiencing. In a matter of months, we saw reduction of their symptoms thanks to these modalities.
My driving motivation behind starting this tea company is to share my love for high-quality teas and their incredible healing properties, so others can experience and benefit from them as well.
